Cheryl believes that there is a black belt in each and every one of us, just waiting to be discovered. She also knows the many secrets of the ninja which can easily be applied to all aspects of life, including business and personal relationships, team building, health, fitness, and finances.

Through her speaking engagements, consulting services, online training, and her current book, "Forever Fit and Flexible," Cheryl inspires and motivates others to find their own path to health, healing, and the spirit of their own invisible black belt.

Empowered by her own journey of injury, chronic pain, stress, and fatigue, she discovered a path to health, healing and vitality.

From chronic pain patient to physical therapist in private practice…

At the age of thirty-five, Cheryl was completely blindsided by a devastating back injury. In just a few short months, Cheryl went from being an energetic, healthy, active, and vibrant young woman to a chronic pain patient.

For two and a half years, Cheryl lived the nightmare of dealing with chronic pain. Medical experts told her that she would never recover, or enjoy the quality of life that she loved so much.

Cheryl refused to accept those dire predictions. Instead, she stopped listening to the experts and started listening to herself. Through a slow, systematic method of self-observation, self-awareness, and movement exploration, Cheryl made a complete recovery from her chronic back pain.

She went on to earn her graduate degree in physical therapy, and graduated with honors just three months shy of her 40th birthday. After working in traditional physical therapy settings for two and a half years, she opened her own private practice.

Her alternative clinical practice included Pilates rehabilitation and conditioning as well as a highly sophisticated form of movement therapy, referred to as The Feldenkrais Method.

During her eighteen years in private physical therapy practice, Cheryl was dedicated to helping hundreds of clients achieve the best quality of life possible, regardless of age or current level of function.

The combined teachings of martial arts and Feldenkrais to restore human dignity….

Cheryl discovered Feldenkrais in February of 2000. After her first class, she knew she had to become a practitioner to add to her education and skills. In February of 2006 she began her formal four year-long training to become a Certified Feldenkrais practitioner and graduated in November of 2009.

There were many aspects of Feldenkrais which appealed to Cheryl. However, the most compelling was a quote from Moshe Feldenkrais himself. “What I’m after isn’t flexible bodies but flexible brains. What I am after is to restore each person to his human dignity.”

What a beautiful philosophy to live by….restoring human dignity. Feldenkrais is based on primitive movement, the ability to move easily and effortlessly in your environment and in all aspects of life as well. It is also about the art of survival.

Moshe Feldenkrais was a genius. He was also a martial artist, and the first European to ever earn a black belt in Judo. The principles of martial arts are deeply embedded throughout the Feldenkrais Method, although it might not be obvious to the casual observer.

In a fascinating twist of fate, Cheryl began training in an ancient Japanese martial art in September of 2003. The combined teachings of Feldenkrais and martial arts had a profound and powerful impact on every aspect of Cheryl’s life. Through these two harmoniously connected movement arts Cheryl found her true self and regained her human dignity.

The middle-aged princess finds her might on the mat….

Cheryl shocked everyone, including herself, when she began her martial arts training in Ninpo Tai Jutsu, the Art of the Ninja. The truth is Cheryl never went looking for the art. Instead, the art came looking for her, and it wouldn’t take “no” for an answer.

Cheryl’s teacher was her acupuncturist long before he became her Sensei. For three long years, he tried to get her to step onto the mat and begin training. For some reason he was convinced that she would take naturally to the art of the ninja, and that she would excel at it.

Cheryl thought otherwise. Just the thought of taking a class made her cringe in terror. Finally, to prove to her acupuncturist how wrong he was, Cheryl reluctantly registered for one month of training. She knew she would hate it.

But, she didn’t hate it. She fell in love with the art, and with the training. And she really fell in love with the sense of empowerment that she got from training. Ten years later, she received the distinct honor of becoming became the school’s first female black belt. In the twenty year- long history of the school, no woman had ever earned such a high rank.

Cheryl believes that there is a black belt in each and every one of us, just waiting to be discovered. She also knows the many secrets of the ninja that can easily be applied to all aspects of life, including business and personal relationships, team building, health, fitness, and finances.
